Extron's SMX System MultiMatrix Series matrix switchers
Extron Electronics (Booth 528) is introducing the SMX System MultiMatrix Series of modular, multi-plane matrix switchers. The SMX system supports up to 16 independent analog and digital matrix switchers in a fieldreconfigurable.

frame, all under a single point of control. Its modularity simplifies A/V design, and, by simply adding or swapping matrix boards, provides the flexibility to meet system expansion needs and accommodate new signal formats. It is ideal for use in a wide variety of residential entertainment and media distribution applications where signal types such as high-definition and standard definition video, computer-video from game consoles or media center PCs, and stereo audio must be routed to different rooms or zones.

"The growth of the residential entertainment market has provided new challenges to design systems that provide a flexible upgrade path for the signal routing needs of today's complex home theater systems," says Lee Dodson, vice president of marketing for Extron. "Residential integrators will appreciate the simplicity of installation and ease of control with the SMX System MultiMatrix."

SMX System MultiMatrix frames are available in 3U, 4U, and 5U sizes, providing six, eight, or ten matrix board slots, respectively.

All of the frames feature front panel control, IP Link Ethernet, and RS-232 remote control. Matrix boards are available in I/O sizes up to 16x16 in a variety of signal types including composite, S-video, VGA, wideband video, HD-SDI, and stereo audio. The SMX System MultiMatrix supports up to 16 independent matrix switchers, all under a single point of control.
